A COUPLE were left badly shaken after thugs tried to ram their car off the road.

Police have launched a hunt for the gang in the car which twice tried to force the couple off a road near the M65 before ramming their vehicle.

Detectives say they can find no motive for the attack which happened at the roundabout leading to junction eight of the M65 at the Clitheroe and Manchester turn-off. The couple, who have not been named, were left shaken but unhurt after the incident.

Their car, a white Vauxhall Corsa received £1,000 of damage. Police said a brown Toyota pulled up alongside them containing six or seven males, who started shouting abuse.

The Toyota then deliberately tried to force the Corsa off the road twice before ramming the car and then driving off.

The incident happened at 3pm on Saturday but details have only been released today.

DC Dave Groombridge of Burnley CID said: "This must have been a terrifying thing to happen to that couple in the car.

"They were fortunate not to be injured in any way.

"We are hunting for the brown Toyota car and would appeal for anyone who saw the incident or the vehicle at around the time of the incident to get in touch on 01282 472144."

Police said the couple were both in their early 20s and travelling to Burnley.

DC Groombridge added detectives knew the registration details of the brown Toyota but were anxious for witnesses.

He said: "This seems to be a completely motiveless crime."
