TWO people escaped from a house unhurt after a chip pan caught fire and set the kitchen alight.
The blaze broke out in Highfield Street, Darwen, at 8.30pm last night. The two middle-aged occupants were unharmed. Leading firefighter Jim Earnshaw said: "I think the man had put the chip pan on, gone into the lounge and forgotten about it.
"When he realised the pan had burst into flames he closed the door and made his way out of the house with his partner.
"The fire was still contained when we arrived but the kitchen was destroyed and the rest of the house was slightly effected by smoke." Paramedics arrived on the scene but the couple declined hospital treatment.
