THE Seasiders had keeper Phil Barnes to thank for earning a decent point away at the McAlpine Stadium.

The Blackpool No.1 made three fantastic stops to deny Huddersfield and maintain a run of three consecutive clean sheets.

But just as Pool have been playing well in defence, going forward they have been poor and is reflected by Pool scoring only a single goal in the last four games.

The Seasiders had fond memories of this stadium from last season. In the league encounter Pool left the McAlpine Stadium 4-2 winners with Brett Ormerod grabbing a superb hat-trick.

Later in the season Pool were the victors again, this time a Golden Goal from Martin Bullock helped Pool to the LDV Vans final. However Pool were less as convincing in the second game as they were in the first as they out-played by an impressive Huddersfield.

The game this season started the same way with the home side looking the sharper of the two sides. Pool Striker Paul Dalglish went close for the visitors early but from then on it was all Huddersfield.

Barnes was called into action on 18 minutes when he produced a superb one-handed save to palm away Scott MacDonald's shot on the turn from Gallacher's cross.

Two minutes later, the Terriers thought they should have had a penalty when John Thorrington went down under skipper Ian Hughes' challenge in the area but referee Roy Pearson waved away the Town players' appeals.

Town substitute Danny Schofield's shot with his first touch of the ball was tipped over by Barnes and then on the stroke of half-time Barnes again did well to palm away Irons' pinpoint free-kick which appeared to be heading for the top corner.

The second half was real end to end stuff with both sides almost afraid to push the ball forward at times. The amount of lost possession from the teams was poor, although Huddersfield seemed short of ideas pushing forward

MacMahon brought on Scott Taylor who again added some much needed pace, although he went at the expense of Paul Dalglish who'd shown some nice touches during the game. Young Jamie Burns came on for the injured Danny Coid and while showing promise his inexperience at the level was evident.

The Seasiders best chances came late on. Richie Wellens will be chastised for some needless show-boating towards the end which repeatedly put the Seasiders under pressure while Scott Taylor forced a good save from Bevan with the ball falling agonisingly short of Richard Walker in front of goal.
