BURNLEY'S ultimately simple passage into the second round of the Worthington Cup delighted manager Stan Ternent and he admitted: "I now hope we can get a good draw."

Dean West and substitute striker Dimitri Papadopoulos, who netted twice, struck their first goals for the Clarets in a 3-0 victory that made it two wins on the bounce for Ternent's team.

"The main thing is that we are in the hat," said Ternent who is well aware of the importance of the potential financial rewards on offer.

"We would like to get a big club if possible but that is what everyone wants. Anything that can make more revenue is important.

"But the win was very important for the players confidence and I hope we can carry that on to the League game against Stoke on Saturday. That is a very important match for us."

Having kept the side that turned defeat into victory at Derby on Saturday, Ternent has been handed another selection headache by the double strike by Papadopoulos.

Left on the bench behind Robbie Blake and Ian Moore, his two sharp finishes during his 27 minutes on the pitch followed his impressive display against Crystal Palace and a winning goal while on international duty.

"Dimi is very, very sharp and he has got a big future ahead of him," said Ternent. "This is a squad game and he came on when we needed to liven things up.

"The thing is the players had a tough match on Saturday. Robbie Blake is still coming back from his double hernia and Glen Little has got a bit of a virus which meant he was puffing a bit. Ian Moore ran his socks off on Saturday and against Blackpool."

Those three players made way for Papadopoulos, Gareth Taylor and Alan Moore in the second half with the big Wales striker involved in the last two goals, the third when his penalty was saved.

But another display of promising form from Little and Blake was a boost to the manager who said: "The more Robbie plays the fitter he gets and the more Glen plays he will get over his virus."

The fact he felt able to withdraw them early in the second half, at a time when Blackpool were enjoying their best spell, illustrated that Ternent is happy with his options in attack. He felt safe in having one eye on the clash with Stoke at the weekend and the replacements did not let him down.

The one disappointment for Burnley was the fact that his side finished with just ten men as midfielder Paul Weller limped off in the second half after all three changes had been made. Weller missed much of pre-season with a foot injury but had looked to be getting back to his best form.

"That is a chance you take when you want to give players a game and perhaps you should keep one in reserve," he said. "Weller has got a groin strain and we won't know how bad it is until later today. But he has to be a big doubt for Saturday."

The draw for the second round, when the Premiership clubs not involved in Europe get involved, will be held on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday programme half an hour before the Clarets kick off against Stoke City at the weekend. The games will be played in the week commencing September 30.
