SCHOOL leavers have been given a unique opportunity to work while training for the first time at Burnley & Padiham Community Housing.
Three modern apprentices started their training with the housing association on Monday, September 9.
Spokesman for Burnley & Padiham Community Housing, Alan Tyrell, said he believed this was a step in the right direction for the organisation:
"We took over the housing stock in March 2000 and it has continued to support the local community as far as possible.
"As part of this support, the company has decided to appoint three young people to become modern apprentices.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to offer these career opportunities and support the Modern Apprenticeship Scheme in partnership with Burnley College."
David Clarke has been appointed in the plumbing and gas fitting role, Fatima Begum will take on on the business administration position, and Stuart Winnington will be involved with electrical installation.
They will all be working towards achieving an NVQ within their field of work.
Their training will consist of 'on the job training', under the guidance of a mentor, complemented by day release or block release at Burnley College.
