LEMON Popsicle fans -- the films that is, not the ice lollies -- can reminisce about the 80s teen films with a new local fanzine.
Launched by Hindley fanatic Roy Mitchell, the fanzine aims to offer fans detailed information and insight into the Israeli films and their casts.
Roy, of Cornwall Drive, first watched Lemon Popsicle when he was 19 and, at 37, has collected copies of all eight films and their sound tracks, as well as numerous posters and programmes.
"They are comedies set in Tel Aviv, Israel, in the 1950s and are based around the lives of three teenaged boys. They all have excellent 50s and 60s rock 'n' roll sound tracks and the characters are great."
Made between 1979 and 1988 the foreign films are dubbed in English, which Roy believes explains their cult, rather than mainstream, following. The first three are probably the most famous -- Lemon Popsicle, Going Steady and Hot Bubblegum.
The first edition of Roy's fanzine is a 24-page black and white magazine priced at £2. He is currently working on the second edition, due out in December, which he hopes will be thicker and include colour.
