TWO visual artists are aiming to create a crowd for their next exhibition on Saturday.
Derek Tyman and Emma Rushton are filming a scene to be shown in a Turnpike display next February and want as many people as possible to join in.
The Manchester-based duo are interested in places established for public debate and will stage a crowd on the Civic Square. The aim is to investigate the desire to be part of a gathering and how taking part can mark a moment or event in time.
They need volunteers to participate in a flag waving throng for a couple of hours of filming.
Anyone willing to take part will be asked to wave a handmade flag designed and made by the artists to represent a fictitious country, and filming of the event will be used as part of next year's exhibition entitled "In This Place".
The couple also want to borrow past or present photographs of crowd scenes on the historic town hall square.
They intend to display Journal readers' images of crowds who have attended past events from the Queen's visit to union meetings alongside official photographs from the archives.
Anyone who can help with either request should contact Keri Moogan at the Turnpike Gallery on 01942 404469 or email turnpikegallery@wiganmbc.gov.uk
