SCOUT PARTY: Youngsters of St Peter's Cub and Brownie groups formed a guard of honour outside St Peter's Church after the wedding of their leaders, Mr Roderick Lloyd and Miss Janice Atkinson. Curate of St Peter's the Reverend John Beddington, who was District Commissioner for Scouts, conducted the service.
BREAD LINE BURY: Housewives were warned that loaves would go on ration at many Bury bakehouses following the big weekend rush to beat the bread strike. A number of shops were already limiting customers to two loaves each. People were accused of panic buying following a strike by the Bakers' Food and Allied Workers Union.
LOLLY LAMENT: Mobile ice cream and lolly vendors parking in Bury precinct came in for some stick from members of the Bury and District Chamber of Trade. Their annoyance was "whipped" up by what members claimed was a growing nuisance and unfair competition for precinct traders selling the same stuff but having to pay high rent and rates.
