CIVIC leaders, firefighters and local people united on Wednesday (Sept 11) in tribute to the thousands of people killed in the twin towers attack exactly a year ago.
Councillor John Smith, the Mayor of Bury, laid a wreath at the town hall as people across the world remembered the events of September 11 2001. He was joined at the ceremony by the mayoress, Coun Mrs Stella Smith and Bury North MP David Chaytor.
And members of Green Watch at Whitefield Fire Station are pictured standing in silence as the world marked the first anniversary of the September 11 tragedy at 1.46pm.
The firefighters, who cover the Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich areas, bowed their heads as they remembered the hundreds of New York rescuers who died trying to save workers in the World Trade Centre towers.
At 1.46pm motorists pulled up on the road to observe the silent tribute while shoppers, pub-goers and office workers united to honour those who died in the terrorist attack.
