POOL survived an early penalty attempt to go on and demolish an aggressive Tranmere side in a blitzing second half display.

After a solid defensive first half, the attacking side of Blackpool came back to score three times -- Keith Southern, John Hills and Scott Taylor on target.

The win puts Pool in sixth position and if only one of those 0-0 draws could have been a win, the Seasiders would find themselves joint top.

Pool boss Steve McMahon made a brave decision prior to the game by naming John Hills, returning after injury, in the starting 11. But in the end the gamble paid off with Hills having a superb game.

Barely a minute had past when Tranmere were awarded a penalty after a foul by Hughes. Blackpool keeper Phil Barnes further added to his growing reputation when he superbly saved Jason Price's attempt.

On 24 minutes Richard Wellens found Scott Taylor all alone in the box with a clear shot at goal. But the Blackpool striker failed to steer theball into far corner and the ball narrowly passed the wrong side of the post.

The sides went into break goalless and it seemed it

was going to be heading for yet another 0-0 draw But that didn't happen as Pool put in a superb second half performance.

Within just 10 minutes they had taken the

lead. Keith Southern lashed the ball in from close-range for his first goal for Blackpool.

Minutes later Pool doubled their lead; John Hills making no mistake with a penalty after a foul on Keith Southern.

Pool had to wait untill the last ten minutes for the next goal. Scott Taylor capped off a superb performance with an emphatic finish into the top corner from close range after a Wellens corner.
