TEENAGE superstar Sam Roberts has jetted back from the Jewish Community Centre Maccabi Games 2002, held in America, with an amazing eight medals.
Sam (16), of Park Road, Prestwich, won six gold medals and two silver medals in the competition. He is pictured proudly showing off his prize haul.
Chances of a ninth medal were thwarted only when he was excluded from an event due to an organisational error.
His medals tally easily surpassed last year's of two silver and one bronze medal. Sam's successes were achieved in: 100m, 200m, 400m, 4 by 100m, 4 by 400m, 4 by 400m mixed race, 300m hurdles and a sprint medley
A total of 7,000 athletes participated in the Maccabi Games at Baltimore, USA, where around 50 represented the U.K.
Sam, who trains at Trafford Athletics Club, will be too old to enter the games next year, but may return to Amercia to assist as a trainer in the competition. He also wants to enter non-Jewish youth leagues and plans to keep on training.
