A TRIO of Atherton schools joined forces to produce a Town Centre Trail.

Pupils from St Richard's, Meadowbank and St George's primaries took to the streets of Atherton to test the town centre trail produced in a link-up with Wigan Education Business Partnership. The trail looks at Atherton town centre past, present and future and will be developed and used by other local schools.

EPB's education business links co-ordinator Angela Naylor believes this type of exercise can deliver real improvements inside the classroom.

The Year Five pupils scheme is backed by SRB5 Atherton Building Communities Programme as part of the town centre management initiative.

ABC board chairman Cllr Susan Loudon said: "The aim is to encourage young people to take pride and an interest in their local surroundings and allow them to make connections between what they learn in the classroom and its application to the outside world."
