LEYLAND Motors Ladies Hockey Club is seeking financial help so it can build on its recent success.

The club has two senior teams and also caters for young players and veterans.

Over the past five years the first team has been promoted on three occasions through two divisions of the North League and are currently in the National League.

Such success dous not come without a price, however, as first team captain Vicki Turner explains: "Playing in the National League means the club has to travel all over the country, as far south as Exmouth.

"At the end of the first season we managed to gain fifth position in the league, and had a successful cup run, reaching the semi final, which was played at the National Stadium in Milton Keynes.

"Taking part in the English Hockey Association Cup was an exciting experience for the first team, as they had to face opposition containing several senior England and GB internationals.

"But such an extensive amount of travelling puts considerable financial demands on the players and the club. That is way we are seeking businesses to sponsor us to help us meet the extra costs."

The forthcoming season will see the introduction of a junior development scheme with the aim of promoting the sport in the area.

The club also takes part in the Indoor Hockey National League and the U19 National Championship.

Last year they reached the finals of the U19 tournament the players travelled down to the National Indoor Stadium at Crystal Palace.

Vicky added: "We are obviously very proud of our achievements and our talented players some of whom hold county and national honours.

"It would be great if we could get some financial help to help us continue our success."
