GRAEME Souness was today sweating on the fitness of Andy Cole after his star striker limped out of yesterday's draw at Maine Road.

Cole compounded a disappointing afternoon for Rovers when he suffered a hamstring injury while scoring his side's second goal in the 54th minute.

Souness was anxiously waiting for further news on the former England man this morning.

But if scans reveal a slight tear then Cole could be sidelined for several weeks, which would rule him out of Rovers' UEFA Cup clash with CSKA Sofia.

"He said at half-time he was feeling his hamstrings tighten up a bit then when he shot, he felt it in his standing foot," said Souness.

"So, hopefully, it's not too serious because hamstrings can be a lengthy business.

"We won't know anymore until our medical staff have had a chance to see him but it's obviously a concern to us."

Ironically, Cole had broken his scoring duck for the season just seconds before courtesy of a neat finish past former Manchester United colleague Peter Schmeichel.

But Rovers' hopes of a second away win then disappeared in his absence as Manchester City's 10-men fought back to rescue a point with a last-gasp equaliser.

"At least he'll be delighted at scoring, especially against Peter Schmeichel," added Souness.
