A TEENAGER has undergone surgery to remove fluid on his brain after being found unconscious in a Blackburn street, yards from where he was involved in a fight.
Police found Adam Heaton slumped on the pavement in Mincing Lane in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Paramedics took the 17-year-old to Blackburn Royal Infirmary before he was transferred to Hope Hospital, in Salford, where had surgery on Saturday.
He remains in the Intensive Care Unit where a hospital spokesman today described his condition as stable and improving.
Detective Inspector Neil Hunter said it was not clear how the teenager sustained his injuries.
Earlier in the night Mr Heaton, who lives in the Mill Hill area, was involved in a fight with another man outside the C'est La Vie, in Market Street, yards from where he was found. Police said he had been drinking in the nightclub.
DI Hunter said blows were exchanged before the two went their separate ways.
Appealing for further information, DI Hunter said: "At this stage we don't know if he collapsed as a result of the fight or he could have tripped and fallen due his alcohol consumption.
"The other person involved may be unaware that Mr Heaton has collapsed but it is crucial we identify him to establish what happened.
"We are keen to speak to anybody who saw the incident or who has information." Anyone who can help police with their inquiries is ask to call Blackburn CID on 01254 353569.
