IT was another successful weekend of racing for Bury riders, both in the Northern Alliance Individuals at Goshen and at Leicester in the Midland/North Regional League.
Saturdays Individual meeting, postponed from the Goshen Jubilee bank holiday, produced three trophies for the club when Paul Dyson retained the Veteran's Championship, he won last year with a 20pts maximum score. Stoke's Frank Finnigan was runner-up with Andy Scofield of Hull in third place. Bury's other contestants, Steve Mann scored 17, just missing third spot and Steve Jarman scored 16.
In the Open category there was no stopping Tameside's Terry Norman, who never put a wheel wrong but Bury's Neil Howarth and Paul Dyson took the minor place awards with 19 and 18 respectively. Mark Rushby scored 15, Ben Scranage, Steve Mann and Tom Doyle all scored 12 and Steve Jarman 10.
At Leicester the Bury second team pulled off a very important victory in their bid for the Combination League with a last heat thrilling 60-59 scoreline. After trailing through the match, they had to hold the tough penultimate heat 5-5 to set up a last heat 7-3 victory to secure the points. Rob Pearce dropped just one point for 15 to top the scores. Steve Muff scored 14+1, Ben Scranage 12, Tom Doyle 7+2, Dave O'Callaghan 6+1, Steve Mann 6. Although the first team match went recording to the form book, a Leicester 104-73 victory was a reasonable result.
Bury could only produce four race wins, but on this occasion it was Mark Rushby with two wins and 13 plus one bonus point who topped the scores. Neil Howarth added 13, Paul Dyson 12+1 (one win), Robert Pearce 10, John Whiting 9-2 (one win), Ben Scranage 7, Dave Morgan 5, Steve Muff 4.
There is no racing for Bury riders t his week-end, as the British Team Championships semi finals and final take place at Eaton, Norwich.
