DISABLED people should enjoy full access to local public buildings by 2004.
Bury Council is spending £300,000 to make 38 buildings accessible, as required by the Disability Discrimination Act. These range from Bury Art Gallery to Ramsbottom library, Prestwich area office to Whitefield community centre, and Goshen leisure centre to the three market offices.
Nearly all the buildings in the programme have been surveyed, from a disabled person's point of view, by Bury and District Disabled Advisory Council.
Councillors have approved the programme. Loans and capital receipts will pay for the improvements.
