THE doors have now opened on a £4million-plus development which it is hoped will help unite an Accrington school in more ways than one.
The massive transformation at Moorhead High School, in Queens Road West, which was formerly a split-site school, is hoped to be completed by the end of this year.
The work has included the creation of a new building linked to the Cromwell building with a glassed roof. It incorporates new science labs, art rooms, music rooms, technology workshops, a dining room and a large sports hall with changing rooms and shower facilities.
Joan Hayselden, the then acting headteacher, blamed the wide-open, split-school site as a major contributing cause to violence at the school in January. Last week six pupils pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour during the incident.
Work is also hoped to begin on a new £100,000 playground at the Cromwell site.
