Leigh RMI 1 Nuneaton Borough 1 by David Magilton
ON-LOAN winger Stuart Whittaker salvaged a point for Leigh RMI with a superbly taken free-kick a minute from time.
After three successive home wins the game appeared to have slipped out of Leigh's grasp until the former Bolton Wanderers' winger came up trumps.
The hard-working Andy Heald was felled just outside the box by Warren Payton and
Whittaker curled the free-kick home a la Beckham.
In a game of few chances Borough looked to have clinched three points with an equally well-struck strike in the 86th minute.
Lee Harvey pumped a long ball downfield which popped up perfectly for Mark Quayle to volley passed a stranded keeper.
Quayle, a former RMI player, is proving a thorn in his former club's side as he struck a hat-trick against them playing for Telford last season.
RMI lacked the cutting edge of recent games and only a floated cross by Dino Maamria which hit the woodwork and a Whittaker shot into the side-netting caused Nuneaton any flutters in defence.
RMI manager Steve Waywell was relieved to have salvaged a point.
"I thought we should have had the game won in the first-half. We had enough pressure but after the break they wanted it a bit more and were the better side, without causing us any problems. Their goal was a great strike though.
"At the end of the day I have got to be happy that the lads showed character in coming back wih a late equaliser."
