CLITHEROE'S unbeaten start to the NWCL Division Two season came to an end last night.
Mossley took the lead on 15 minutes when a cross from the wing hit defender Gary Rishton, spun up on the bar and dropped for Phillips to side foot in.
They extended their lead six minutes later when Rishton was adjudged to have backpassed to keeper Kris Richens who picked up the ball.
The resulting free kick was touched to Tony Carroll who fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Clitheroe pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when Lee Buggie pounced on to a loose ball in the box and lifted the ball over the keeper.
Mossley always looked dangerous and caused the home defence a few problems but neither side however could add to their tally in the second half.
