A WOMAN resorted to prostitution to help her through a financial crisis as she had done in the past.
Blackburn magistrates heard her latest fund raising exploits were quickly spotted by police who are clamping down on activities in the red light area of Blackburn.
Deborah Bannister, 33, of Griffin Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to loitering for the purpose of prostitution in Dixon Street. She was fined £75 or ordered to serve one day in custody in default of immediate payment.
She had been in custody for 15 hours and the penalty was deemed served.
David Macro, prosecuting, said that when she was approached by police Bannister said; "I just want to do one of my regular punters and then I'll go home."
Daniel King, defending, said there had been a concerted effort by Bannister to end "this anti-social and criminal behaviour."
He added: "She has not been in trouble of this kind for 18 months but she struggles financially and occasionally she resorts to prostitution to supplement her benefits."
