COUNCILLOR Paul McGurty (Letters, September 11) is right -- prison time served seems to be unrepresentative of the offences. But on hanging, I part company with him.

We hanged people (some innocent) for centuries, so it never was a deterrent.

"Thou shalt not kill" applies a much to the state of the individual.

Killing (hanging) in cold blood for revenge puts us down the path the killer trod. As far as I can concerned, they walk alone.
