VETERAN defender Henning Berg plans to banish the memories of Rovers' embarrassing exit at the hands of Trelleborg when Rovers meet CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Cup tonight.
Berg was a member of the Rovers team who lost to the Swedish part-timers at the same stage of the competition eight years ago and he still carries the scars from what was the worst night of his career.
"Everyone thought they were just a bunch of teachers and electrians because they weren't getting paid as much as we were over here," said Berg.
"But, if anything, they probably trained harder than we did and you only have to see how many good players have come out of Sweden and Norway in the last 10 years to see that's not the case.
"Having said that, to lose against them was disappointing and I don't think people were prepared for it.
"We lost 1-0 at home in a game we never should have lost and then drew 2-2 over there when they scored with virtually the last kick of the game which made it impossible for us to come back.
"So that wasn't a good experience for us but that can happen in one-off games because that's the danger of European football."
Assistant boss Tony Parkes also remembers that Trelleborg defeat vividly.
"A lot of the players here now won't remember much about it, because they weren't here then, but it was quite an embarrassing time." said Parkes.
"The Press made it more difficult by talking about ink-sellers, market traders and bankers so that doubled the embarrassment."
