A LATE equaliser by his team cost a Burnley fan £20,000 after a sequence of betting which would make a modest punter blanch!
The man was convinced his side were going to beat Millwall when they went a goal up in their First Division clash on Tuesday night.
He staked £5,000 with William Hill on them to do so at odds of 4/9, hoping to collect a profit of £2,221 -- along with the three points for his beloved Clarets.
But Millwall fought back and Burnley found themselves 1-2 down instead of one goal in front.
So the intrepid punter decided to switch sides and at least save his money, even if his team couldn't save the match.
He put a staggering £15,000 on Millwall to win the game with William Hill at odds of 3/10.
This would have won him £4,500, almost getting back the stake money from his original bet.
Then Burnley equalised, to make the final score 2-2 and leaving the punter with a £20,000 deficit.
"I suppose he may have been relieved that Burnley won a point -- but it cost him twenty grand to get it for them", said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe.
