RAILWAY enthusiasts will gather in Lowton for one of the region's major exhibitions organised by Leigh Model Railway Society.

And what a show it promises to be.

The exhibition at the spacious Civic Hall in Hesketh Meadow Lane will feature some marvellous layouts and novices and experts alike will revel in a gathering with something for everyone.

Ian Coburn's stand is sure to be a big attraction -- he works wonders reviving Hornby 00 gauge and Wrenn equipment. His super powerful modern magnets breathe new life into the classic designs.

Other traders include Dave Poole, who runs Pooley's Puffers from Gateshead, and Todmorden Model Supplies who stock some excellent tools and equipment.

Layouts which will mesmerise visitors include Boldon Junction. The Barrow-in-Furness re-creation is acknowledged by the North West Model Railway Clubs' Association as the region's most popular design.

The Leigh Society's Lea Moor and Randale Summit layout is a fictitious setting but you could imagine it as being in the Forest of Bowland and the model church -- labelled by Model Railway magazine as "unbelievable perfection" -- is, according to Society spokesman Steve Rogers, based on the Church of St Mark's at Dunham Massey.

Acclaimed modeller Allan Downes will have one of his star layouts on display and will be happy to share his knowledge with showgoers. And one of the visitors will be exhibition regular and internationally famous Big Band leader Andy Prior who, as a 14 year-old was a founder member, of Leigh Model Railway Society.

The exhibition is being held on Saturday (10-5) and Sunday (10-5), September 28 and 29 at Lowton Civic Hall.

Admission (including programme) costs £3.00 adults and £1.50 concessionary. A family ticket (two adults, two children) costs £7.50. Car parking is free.
