HUNDREDS of properties in the Ribble Valley will receive a test flood warning from the Environment Agency next Wednesday.
The agency will issue test warnings to homes and businesses in the Low Moor area of Clitheroe and Ribchester to check its communication links.
The agency issues flood warnings to homes and workplaces via an automatic voice messaging system that sends telephone messages to properties ensuring people are alerted to flood risk without delay.
The results of the test will be used to develop and improve the agency's existing flood warning methods.
Alex Cornish, the agency's flood warning team leader, said: "Many people face a very real risk of flooding and it is vital that they receive and understand the right warnings at the right time. People can help us by responding to the test warning by pressing digit one on their telephone."
The Environment Agency operates a 24-hour flood forecasting and warning service for rivers in England and Wales, monitoring weather and river conditions, and issuing warnings of potential flooding to the emergency services, local authorities and the general public.
Anyone with a query about the test should contact the Environment Agency's Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
