P To compete in the Commonwealth Games must be every athlete's dream, especially if you found yourself part of the English National Swimming Squad, achieving major championship success and gaining recognition for the hard work, which has put you in this current position among the world elite national squads.
To build on this current swimming euphoria, and by taking a leaf out of the national Squads training regime, this October Salt Ayre Sports Centre will be hosting it's first ever Swimming Development Camp.
The camp will provide top local coaches training local youngsters in an intense five-day session across four major improvement targets.
This will take place between October Half Term October 21 to 25 2002.
In order to assemble this high quality coaching opportunity Salt Ayre Sports Centre is working in partnership with the Council's Sports Development Team, Lancaster City Amateur Swimming and Water Polo Club and Carnforth Otters Swimming Club.
Richard Hammond, Sports Development Officer with Lancaster City Council Leisure Services said: "this is a great initiative, and this partnership will be beneficial to both swimmers and coaches".
The Camp is hosting four development sessions during the week; Mini Water polo, 8.30am to 9.30am from eight to ten year olds (£16), two Improver Swimming sessions 9.30am to 10.30am for ages eight to 11 and ages 12+ (£16), as well as an Advanced Club Swimming session.
This session, which will include dry side instruction on fitness, stroke analysis, diet and performance, is for current club swimmers only and will cost £25 for two and a half hours tuition per day.
Places at the camp are currently available, however swimmers are advised that they must be able to swim constantly for the whole session and be able to swim Back crawl, Breaststroke and Front crawl to have a place on either of the Improver Swimming sessions.
