THE Friends of Sunnyhurst Woods have raised £2,100 towards a flood fund to restore the beauty spot.
Since the June 14 freak storms, the residents' group has staged two fundraising events to help Blackburn with Darwen Council meet the repair bill, expected to run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.
A street collection through Darwen town centre two weeks ago raised £700, while last Sunday's delayed summer gala yielded £1,400.
Dennis Gillibrand, chairman of the group, thanked the public for their support after almost 3,000 attended the gala, which was postponed from June 24 following the floods.
"We are delighted at the turn out from the public and were very grateful to the support from the Mayor, Tony Humphrys, who was an absolute star for us in opening the event," said Dennis.
