THE final phase in Wigan Council's renovation plans for Leigh Town Centre involves a revamp of lighting on the Civic Square.
Local councillor and chairman of Leigh Town Centre Risk Management Group, Brian Jarvis hopes the project, which will improve public safety in the area, will be in place by Christmas.
The new lighting system, funded by a government grant from Communities Against Drugs, will compliment the CCTV cameras, also installed as part of the renovation, and follows other improvements including an alcohol ban, newly planted flowerbeds, car parks and new gates.
Mr Jarvis said: "This should make Leigh Town Hall Square a much safer and environmentally friendly place for the citizens of the town."
