TOWN centre toilets have reopened in Leigh following further refurbishment to combat vandal damage.
But the Bengal Street conveniences could be shut for good if funding cannot be found for new toilets in more prominent locations.
Town centre management group chairman Cllr Brian Jarvis explained: "Leigh was well served with toilets but because of vandals, druggies and what-have-you it closed.
"Toilet facilities in town are inadequate and our engineers' department has been asked to look at providing two more conveniences, but the major problem is finance. If we get new toilets then those in Bengal Street may close. Although there is no statutory obligation for the Council to provide toilets there is a moral duty to provide facilities of this nature."
The Bengal Street facilities are open from 7.30am-4pm Mon-Sat.
