HEALTH bosses today said there would be an independent review into the care of hit-list killer Mark Harrington.

The 20-year-old shot and killed friend Anthony Rigby in January of this year while receiving care at the psychiatric unit at Blackburn's Queen's Park Hospital.

A spokesman for the Blackburn with Darwen Primary Care Trust said the timescale and those involved in the inquiry have yet to be decided.

The move comes after Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Health Care NHS Trust launched an internal review shortly after the killing.

Harrington, of St James Road, Blackburn, was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act after he admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday.
