Blackburn Rovers Ladies kicked off the season at their new Brockhall base with a stylish win against Bolton Wanderers.
Manager Marek Walsh feared his girls might be overawed by the state-of-the-art Academy surroundings but Rovers were having none of it -- and the early goal certainly helped.
Captain Justine Wallace led by example with two goals from midfield but was lucky not to set off after a late bust-up with Wanderers best player Jeanette Williams.
Wallace opened the scoring after just seven minutes when Wallace timed her run to perfection to latch on to a fantastic ball by Lisa Walsh and skipper raced clear to volley past the advancing Nikki Leese.
Rovers nearly doubled their lead soon after when Laura Holden and the impressive Holly Pointon combined to set up Walsh who curled an effort just wide of the far post.
But number two was longing in coming and Wanderers defence were caught napping when Walsh threaded the ball through to Lynette Craig who raced through unopposed to score.
Wanderers began to get back in the game and Donna Clemmett fired across the goal before Nabella Butt saw a shot brilliantly hooked off the line by Pointon.
Rovers keeper Andrea Murray then pulled of a fine save from Butt before Wanderers pulled a goal back when Ann-Marie Taylor burst through the Rovers defence, rounded the keeper to score a fine individual goal.
The hard-working Craig was inches away from restoring Rovers two goal lead when she latched on to Pointon's precision pass, raced in to the area but hit the far post with an angle drive.
But the all important third goal came on the stroke of half time when Pointon's pace took her to the by-line and her cross was side footed home by Vikki Eastwood.
After the break, Rovers continued to look the more dangerous going forward and Eastwood was seeing more of the ball on the left.
And after one surging run, the winger was brought down on the edge of area of the area from where Wallace forced a good save out of Leese from the resulting free kick.
Back came Bolton and Butt fired straight at Murray before Rovers had a scare when Emma Wilson nearly headed in to her own goal after a mix-up with the keeper.
Welsh went close with two well hit efforts before Wallace clinched the cup win with the goal of the game.
Eastwood's pass found Wallace wide on the left and the captain cut back inside Catherine McHugh and curled a beautful shot up and over the stranded Bolton keeper. It rounded off an impressive display from Wallace and her Rovers team who showed there is no place like home.
