THE parents of a Blackburn woman brutally raped while on holiday in Cyprus are set to fly out to be by her bedside.

The 22-year-old has undergone two operations for internal injuries sustained after the attack, on the party resort of Ayia Napa on Tuesday.

Doctors described her condition as serious but stable but warned her health could be permanently impaired and she may need further surgery, although her injuries are not life threatening.

The British High Commission said the victim's parents have been contacted and were due to fly to Cyprus.

The woman, who was on holiday with a female friend, told Greek CID officer she was grabbed by three men and forced into a car after leaving a nightclub in Ayia Napa in the early hours of Tuesday.

She was taken to a remote area where the men beat her and one of them raped her. She was abandoned and found later by locals.

A 26-year-old diver from Famagusta has been remanded for eight days in connection with her abduction, rape and beating. He turned himself into police accompanied by his father.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of the other suspects.
