REGARDING Mr Roy Davies' claim (Letters, August 31), that Blackburn with Darwen Council refused permission for offices and houses to be built on the site of the old Lower Darwen Paper Mill.
Firstly let me agree with him that this council does nothing for the borough, whether it's bringing in jobs or shoppers.
Remember the 'A' board fiasco, the music licences for pubs and now the refusal of a smashing new night spot on Darwen Street -- Blackburn's 'Curry Mile.'
Secondly, Mr Davies suggests the council is secretly trying to move the Lower Darwen venture down the road to Blackburn. Being born and bred in Lower Darwen, I always thought I was in Blackburn.
Lower Darwen Paper Mill, just like me, paid their rates to Blackburn Borough before local government re-organisation in 1974 and Blackburn's coat of arms has been on the bridge in the centre of the village for over 100 years. Is there something I don't know?
C WORTHINGTON (Mrs), Duchess Street, Lower Darwen.
