BLOW YOUR own trumpet and get sexy with the sax -- Big Band Crazy is back in town!
Bandleader Andy Prior and his orchestra delighted at The Grand last Sunday with a great selection of swing and big band arrangements from such luminaries as Count Basie, Ted Heath and Duke Ellington.
Special guest John Miller (Glen Miller's nephew) added mature vocals and a little American puppy-dog enthusiasm to the proceedings, though it was definitely Andy Prior's show the night I saw it.
The 14-piece orchestra -- 15 when Andy sang and played his trombone -- was a band worth its weight in brass. From spine-tingling slowies to more energetic numbers the musicians were relaxed enough to laugh and joke between numbers, confident they sounded good.
The show started off at the Blackpool Grand Theatre last year before going on tour and returning to Blackpool to play Sunday nights until September 22. Go see but be warned -- you may want to foxtrot home!
