FACED with a chemical leak in Bury on Wednesday night (Sept 18), firefighters did exactly what it said on the tin.
Crews were called out to Belbeck Street after residents saw a thick green liquid flowing down the road. The chemical had poured out of a five gallon drum which had been kicked over by youngsters.
However, before firefighters were forced to don full chemical protection suits, the liquid was quickly identified as a mild form of hydrochloric acid used to de-scale materials.
The drum also featured an explanation of how to deal with spillages: dilute with water.
So, armed with two hose reels, the Bury crews poured 3,000 litres of water on the green fluid and washed away the problem.
