A PRESTON couple are making a clean break -- dusting down the cobwebs for a televised house clearance before moving to a new cottage.
Ray Askew, 54, and his wife Gill, of Princes Drive, Fulwood, are getting ready for an invasion of camera crews next week as their treasured possessions are sold off as part of the Everything Must Go gameshow.
Beds, tables, televisions and videos will be among the items up for grabs as the couple invite people to hunt for bargains at their home before moving to Blackburn.
Much of the property has been in the family for 70 years since Ray's grandfather Alf Montague and his wife Mabel bought it in the 1930s. Ray's mother Connie Askew moved into the house with her husband, Martin, when Ray was one-year-old.
After marrying, Ray and Gill lived at various addresses in Preston while raising their children Rebecca, 22, and Jack, 20, before moving back to Princes Drive after the death of Ray's father some years ago.
"We moved in with my mother and took over the running costs," said Ray. "But our children are both at university now, so we don't need a place of this size."
Gill, a nursing sister at Sharoe Green Hospital, gave the show's producers a call and got the ball rolling!
Ray said: "Gill was at home when she saw Everything Must Go for the first time. She rang them and they came with cameras to film our house and we made it to the final stages."
While some sentimental items will not be included, such as programmes from Ray's mum's former 1930s dance school in Deepdale Road, the couple hope to make a mint with the rest of their belongings. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Fulwood Methodist Church.
The sale will take place at the house on Monday, September 23, from 3.30-6pm. To find out more call Ray on 469412.
