A POLICY document to help people suffering from domestic abuse has been welcomed by a former victim support worker.

The documents have been produced within a multi-agency setting involving Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Social Services, Rossendale Borough Council, local health care trusts, the probation service, the Crown Prosecution Service, Victim Support Lancashire, Rossendale Domestic Violence Forum, Rossendale magistrates and Lancashire Court Service.

The purpose of the policy was to define the roles and responsibilities of staff when dealing with domestic violence.

Several initiatives were also introduced to reduce incidents of violence and provide a framework to ensure the physical and emotional support required by victims are available.

Greensclough councillor, Judith Driver said this document produced by Rossendale After Care Project was vital to helping people in abusive situations.

She said: "I used to work with victims of abuse so it is nice to see now at last all agencies getting together to work on this one policy."
