DARWEN hot shot Paul Baker is only half-way through his five-week suspension and manager Steve Wilkes is becoming increasingly frustrated as chance after chance passes his side by.

"I am not having a go at Gareth Woods who has come in and scored three goals in three games," he said.

"But he is not Paul Baker and when you have a player who has scored 34 and 36 goals in the last two seasons you are going to miss him when he is not playing."

Darwen face Northern Counties East first division side Guisborough in the FA Vase tomorrow and Wilkes knows his NWCL second division side face a tough test.

"They are in a division above us so it would be a good result to get them back to our place on Tuesday."

Andrew Walsh, Scott Derbyshire, Jimmy Khan and David Rhodes are out and Wilkes hasn't played himself for the past four games "which is why we haven't lost," he joked.

"I have 22 players fighting for 11 places which is good but there is still something missing.

"We drew 1-1 with Blackpool Mechanics on Wednesday and it was a poor game between two bad sides.

"But I have been really pleased with Matt Anderton who got a bit of a talking to at the start of the season but has grown in stature since then and scored a great goal on Wednesday."
