BACUP boss Brent Peters is out to get revenge on Cammell Laird after they inflicted a heartbreaking defeat on one of his sides.

When Peters was manager of Glossop, one mistake gifted Cammell Laird the winning goal in extra-time of a replay denying the Surrey Road side a last 16 place.

"The changing room was deathly quiet after that game," said Peters. "I have never been in one like that.

"We had been in the Vase since the extra-preliminary round, we had some good players and we felt it was our year. We felt we were on our way to Wembley and it was just one error. We were gutted."

Now, as manager of Bacup, he wants to gain some revenge when the West Cheshire League table toppers make the trip to Rossendale United's Dark Lane on Sunday in the FA Vase (ko 3pm).

"It won't be easy," admitted the West View chief. "They are a strong side and a good cup team, they are renowned for it especially in the Vase. We are probably the favourites and that puts the pressure on us."

Bacup, who are still unable to play at home while they have their pitch repaired, have won three of their opening four league games but have just had a break of two weeks without a match.

"We were on a roll and wanted to play but it was an enforced break," said Peters.

"But we are playing well and have a mixture of youth and experience which is what I wanted.

"It still makes us susceptible to individual mistakes but we will learn from it.

"The good results have bred confidence, we just wish we weren't playing catch-up already in the league."

Bacup have put seven days on former Bury and Doncaster utility man Lee Anderson, currently at Winsford.
