I WOULD like to appeal to any of your readers who are tetraplegic, or have a family member or friend who is tetraplegic -- severely paralysed following damage to the spinal cord.
Many of them will know of the work of REGAIN -- the only organisation in the UK that supports men and women who become tetraplegic as a result of a sporting injury. The charity purchases equipment to help them need more independent lives ranging from electric wheelchairs and computer equipment to lightweight sports wheelchairs so they can enjoy sport again.
We would very much like to ask them to contact REGAIN if they are in need of equipment and also to support a unique integrated cycle ride for both disabled and able-bodied cyclists in Kenya to help raise funds to buy more equipment for tetraplegic men and women in towns across Britain.
There will be tetraplegic hand cyclists and the charity's Chairman Lord Ivar Mountbatten among the riders cycling 400kms from the slopes of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria next June. If any readers would like to join the challenge or nominate and support a disabled person to take part we would be very keen to hear from them. Further information about the ride or the charity from me on 01590 612227.
Ann Frampton on behalf of REGAIN, Glenstone Cottage, Main Road, East Boldre, Hampshire SO42 7WT.
