ONCE again in the Bury Times, Shakers manager Andy Preece has seen fit to criticise his own fans for their "stay-away" attitude during the recent Worthington Cup tie against Stoke City.
I wonder if Mr Preece ever casts an eye over the other attendances in this competition. In the same week, clubs such as Nottingham Forest attracted a crowd of only 4,400; Huddersfield 3,800; Sheffield United 4,500; and Sheffield Wednesday 8,000. Does he not realise that the Worthington Cup is notorious for poor crowds until the third or fourth rounds?
I suggest to him that, after three years of inept, inconsistent and downright poor performances, he concentrate on the football side of things at Gigg Lane, and does his own job properly.
Bury supporters are not mugs; give us 10-15 games unbeaten and the crowds will increase. OK, after last weekend we had had five or six games unbeaten, which is a good start, but one swallow doesn't make a summer!
