A CELEBRITY-PACKED team of ex-professional football players will take part in a fund-raising football match for Radcliffe High School at the end of this month.
Superstars of the past like Frank Worthington (Bolton Wanderers and England), Arthur Albiston (Manchester United and Scotland) and Andy Goram (Rangers and Scotland) will take on the school's most successful team of 1970-75.
The match will be held at Radcliffe Boro's Stainton Park ground on Sunday, September 29, and all gate proceeds will go towards the school's application to upgrade its status to become a technical college.
Headteacher Graham Rollinson said: "We are delighted to welcome the footballers and thank them very much for helping us to raise much-needed funds for the school. We need to raise £50,000 to support our application to become a technology college and fund-raising activities throughout the year have generated almost the total sum needed."
If the match helps achieve the final amount, the school will receive a £100,000 grant from the Government, and an additional £250,000 over the next four years. This will allow it to invest in ICT and technology facilities.
The gates will open at 1pm with stalls and a match between the current school team and teachers.
The main event kicks off at 2.30pm, and Bury's mascot Robbie the Bobbie will be there.
Tickets, priced £2 to £10.50, are available from the school on 723 3110 or can be bought on the day.
