CRICKETS, maggots and jellied eels were among the stomach-churning menu items gobbled up by pub regulars who raised around £700 for the Christie Hospital.
The Bush Tucker Trial was organised by Jim Grainger, landlord of the Corporation pub in Oxford Road, Burnley after he saw a similar stunt on ITV's I'm a Celebrity...Get me Out of Here. Jim set up the gruesome challenge to raise money for The Manchester hospital after 18-year-old local John Villas died from Leukaemia.
Jim cooked up a variety of pub grub with a difference including a live cricket dish, a maggot soup, and a of casserole of jellied eels.
He said the 12 contestants gobbled the treats with relish. "Everyone was game for a laugh and nobody fainted, in fact they all tucked to the maggots and crickets with no problem."
