TWO Accrington men have been committed to stand trial at the Crown Court in Manchester for defrauding an 87-years-old Rochdale woman of £7,630 in respect of building work.
Kevin Walsh, 36, of Canal Street, Accrington, and Brian Nolan, 39, also of Canal Street, Accrington, face charges of obtaining from Margaret Bottley £7,630 by deception by falsely representing materials used in building work were more expensive than they actually were, and with dishonestly trying to obtain a further £1,000 from Mrs Bottley by a similar deception.
The accusations relate to work carried out on the chimney at the woman home in Shawclough Way, Rochdale, in May.
The two men, who were granted bail, will make a first appearance at the Crown Court, Minshull Street, Manchester, on November 1.
