It may have poured down for much of the day but thousands still turned out in their droves to the Jubilee mela held at Heaton Park in Manchester.
As well as live entertainment throughout the afternoon mela-goers were treated to a series of fashion shows, a kabaddi tournament and a variety of stalls selling everything from Asian delicacies and goods.
Councillor Afzal Khan told Asian Image, "It was a wonderful success for all of Manchester's multi-cultural community to enjoy. We managed to involve all sections of the community and there was involvement on the day from Chinese, Libyan, Bhuddist and Iranian groups.
"I hope the thousands who attended had a great day. The only complaint was the weather but we couldn't do anything about that."
Coun Khan wished to thank all the people who helped stage this year's mela, "The volunteers were very dedicated and worked very hard. I would like to also thank all the sponsors of the mela for their continued support."
The mela also recieved a special message of support from the Queen and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Appearing on stage were Sahara, Silinder Pardesi, Bashir Lohar, Achanak, True Players and Assia Sumen.
