BACUP'S foray into this season's FA Vase came to an abrupt end at Rossendale's Dark Lane after 'naive' defending cost them four goals against Cammell Laird.
Manager Brent Peters said he was 'embarrassed' at times during the game and said it was his side's worst performance of the season.
Bacup began brightly with some good passing football but things took a turn for the worst when Cammell Laird went ahead on 15 minutes.
A cross came in from the right and the Cammell Laird striker pulled away from Damon Gledhill on the back post before slotting home.
Ten minutes later a goalmouth scramble in the Bacup penalty area resulted in a disputed second goal. Bacup keeper Tommy Allen parried a shot and Shaun Cryer and the Cammell Laird striker jumped in for the rebound. As Cryer went to clear, the forward appeared the bring him down. Cryer handled the ball into the net and the referee awarded a goal.
Peters felt Cryer had been fouled and that the goal should have been disallowed.
At 2-0 down Peters changed to a 4-2-4 formation but found his players lacking the experience needed to pull it off.
As Bacup were overrun in midfield, Cammell Laird scored their third and fourth late in the game.
Allen pulled off another good save just prior to the third goal but poor marking again allowed the Cammell Laird striker to pounce first on the rebound.
And just minutes before time the visitors rounded off their victory with a fourth goal scored after Cryer pulled away from his man to attack the ball, missed and the ball fell nicely for the stiker to fire home.
