AS a member of the Hyndburn Action Committee fighting the closure of care homes, I want to share my disappointment at the reaction of council members at the meeting help at Scaitcliffe House on September 3.

We are passionate amateurs trying to fighting for the weak and frail in our care homes. Our councillors should be trying to help and advise us.

If they agree with the closures, let them say so. If they do not agree with the inhuman plans, which are making elderly, gracious people ill and feeling unwanted -- one elderly gentleman stated that they might as well put a gun to his head and shoot him if they move him from his home -- then let them say so.

Councillor Ian Ormerod is quoted as saying: "You are asking us to make a decision that isn't ours to make." He is, therefore, washing his hands of the whole sad situation.

Councillor Ormerod, we are not asking you to make decision that isn't yours to make. We are asking for your help.

Once the homes have been taken from our elderly, we don't want to be told: "You could have done this or you could have done that."

Yes we had a heated debate on Tuesday, but that was out of frustration not rudeness. Help us to fight, don't stand back and let wrong decisions be made. Join usour action group and lead your voters.
