THERE are two candidates for a Ribble Valley by-election, called after the sudden resignation of a borough councillor.
Harry Backhouse, who was deputy leader of the Ribble Valley Council, quit his Waddington seat in July because of farming responsibilities.
Nominations for the October 17 by-election have closed and the council's two main parties, Conservative and Liberal Democrat, have put forward candidates.
The Tory candidate is Waddington villager Roger Harold Chaplin, of West Bradford Road, and the Lib Dem candidate is William Lee Breton, of Stopper Lane, Rimington.
The council is currently divided among 18
Tories, 16 Lib Dems, three independents and one Labour member.
