A YOUNG cyclist from Whalley won a top trophy after keeping a cool head on a gruelling mountain bike racing course.
Nicholas Tighe, a Year 9 pupil at Oakhill College, won the coveted Terror Trophy for mountain bike racing at Morzine in the French Alps.
Nicholas was one of a party of 14 staff, parents and pupils from Oakhill College's Clarion Cycling Club who visited the resort.
The race was run over the permanent Grundig World Cup downhill course at Morzine, which is a mountain biker's dream, with ski-lifts to the top and frighteningly-fast downhill runs.
Charles Jepson, who manages the club for Oakhill College, said: "Nicholas's achievement is a testimony to his dedication to the sport and growing level of ability.
"It's not often we get the chance to visit international standard runs and Nicholas thrived on the opportunity."
The Oakhill Clarion Cycling Club is open to the general public and has mountain bike, road and track sections. Membership details from Mr Jepson on 01254 823546.
